I was born in 1952 and grew up in south west
London. When I first got interested in art,
what’s called ‘POP’ was still the prevailing
trend and a flat and graphic way of picture
making has always been of great interest to me.
Although I’ve been painting and exhibiting
since the early seventies it was only after
moving to west Cornwall from the west end of
London in 1989 that I fully focused on
developing my current method of working. I
know this may seem a little ironic given the
urban nature of some of my images and
prevailing artistic tendencies in these
parts, but that’s how it is for me.
Though I often make reference to the ‘golden
age’ of popular culture, my primary concern
is a formal and visual rightness, not a
nostalgic or sentimental attitude towards the
past, I intend my painting to be positive and
uplifting, so I hope you enjoy looking at
these images as much as I have enjoyed making
them.
